Ford Motor Co. has sent federal regulators documentation regarding whether the company needs to extend recall of several 3.5 million vehicles with an issue related to faulty airbags, a company source said.

The recall stems from problems with airbag and seat belts that can leave drivers and passengers trapped in vehicles.
